CREATIVE SUPERVISION FOR CONSELLORS & THERAPISTS
THIS IS A PLACE WHERE THINGS CAN START TO CHANGE

Hi and Welcome
If you're training to become a counsellor, you may be looking for a therapist to help you complete your personal therapy hours and meet the personal development requirements of your course.
Finding someone can feel like another task on an already lengthy to do list and even when you know you need to make contact, you might be wondering what to say, what to look for in a therapist, or what you'll actually talk about once you get there.
Perhaps you have plenty you'd like to explore. Or perhaps you know you want to make the most of your personal therapy, but you're not quite sure where to begin.
You don't need to have it all worked out before you start.
As a Person Centred Creative Art Therapist, I work with trainee counsellors and counselling students, drawing on my training with APCCA and the Creative Counsellors Organisation. My approach combines creativity with person centred approach, offering a supportive and sometimes gently challenging space to explore your sense of self, develop greater self-awareness and reflect on the experiences that shape you.
Training to become a counsellor can bring all sorts of things into focus. You might become more curious about your relationships, the patterns you notice in yourself or the experiences that influence how you relate to others. At other times, you may simply feel that something needs attention without knowing exactly what it is.
You don't need to arrive with a list of issues or a perfectly formed goal. Part of my role is to help you find a way into what feels important, even when the words haven't quite arrived.
Creativity can be particularly helpful when talking alone doesn't quite seem to reach something. We might explore an image, use cards or work with a metaphor. Sometimes a simple object from your environment can be just the thing to spark curiosity or maybe a word resonates, all helping you describe something you've struggled to explain or even bring something to the forefront of your mind which has been patiently waiting for your attention.
These are invitations to explore and never exercises that you have to get right. Working in a person-centred way means that you decide what something means to you and I won't be interpreting your images or telling you what you should discover. Instead, we'll be curious together about what you notice and what feels meaningful.
And don't worry if you don't consider yourself creative or artistic. There's no expectation to produce any masterpieces!
Personal therapy can support you in working towards the requirements of your counselling training, but it can also be much more than completing your hours. It's an opportunity to have your own space, where you can explore your personal and professional development without already having the answers.
When looking for personal therapy for trainee counsellors, it's worth checking that a therapist's qualifications and approach meet your training provider's requirements.
You might also want to consider whether their way of working feels right for you, and whether they offer the kind of space in which you could feel comfortable exploring.
