Resilience Tips To Help Combat Stress

I thought that I would share, with you, the series of resilience tips which I ran during self-care week a while ago.  It also means that they are all in one place and I can get to them easily, and so can you.  Happy Days!

So here we go... Building Resilience Tip #1. Creating a positive environment might be done in many ways. It may be by doing something as simple as buying a candle or a plant for your home or your favourite room to something like campaining for the wider environment.

Building Resilience Tip # 2 Thoughts have a habit of wandering off  to dwell on past situations or they quite like jumping into the future and creating lots of 'what if' moments and sometimes elaborate senarios, so to help calm the mind you might want to try some grounding or coping techniques such as mindfulness.

Building Resilience Tip #3 Why not schedule yourself  some "worry time" each day.  That way you can  keep the rest of the day free of worry by reminding yourself that you have allocated time for this.   During your "worry time" you can challenge yourself by asking questions such as "is there a more realistic or positive way of looking at this situation?" or "is this worry true?"

Building Resilience Tip #4 Getting a good nights sleep and rest is important for our all round health so if you are having difficulties you can try creating yourself a sleep plan/routine which might include avoiding naps during the day, adding substances found in food which promote sleep such as trytophan, serotonin and melatonin.

You might even keep a sleep diary to help pinpoint irregularities.

Building Resilience Tip #5 Build yourself a solid support network. This can include people in your life who support and care for you in emotional and practical ways and in turn you support and care for them. Your support network can help you through challenging times, come up with suggestions and ideas and be non-judgmental.

Building Resilience Tip #6 Our values and beliefs drive our behaviour and affect our thoughts and feelings. If they are based on values of others then we are leading the life of others.

Perhaps you might take time to check out what your purpose is, what your values are and what you believe in. Try leading an authentic life.

Building Resilience Tip #7 Manage your physical energy.  We all know how important this is and that it can be done with regular exercise but you can also manage your energy in other ways such as: creating a sleep routine so that you get enough zzzzzz's include nuts & grains in to your diet reduce sugar intake keep hydrated by drinking water avoid smoking and limit alcohol reduce stress and anxiety

So I hope that some of these tips can help you to build your resilience and as I always say, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.  Only you know what is right for you and suits you.   You can play around/practice different ideas and routines and find what is good for you.  Make a note, or better still journal your results so that you have something to return to if ever you need to.
